Ponderosa Cohousing

We are a cohousing group in Vernon, British Columbia, looking to create a community that prioritizes social connection, sustainable lifestyles, and inclusiveness.

Our aim is to design and develop a housing complex composed of affordable, quality-built homes while creating a community that balances shared spaces and amenities with individual ownership of units and privacy.

Cohousing communities are collaborative neighbourhoods created with a little ingenuity. Complexes are designed and managed through a participatory process with consensus decision making by all residents. They consist of privately owned homes complemented by common areas designed for everyday use (e.g., a common house, community kitchen and garden, workshops, children’s play area). Cohousing neighbourhoods bring together the value of privacy with the benefits of community to stand as an innovative and sustainable answer to today’s environmental and social issues.

Cohousing is not social housing; it is not co-op housing. It is planned, intentional community.

Our Vision

Location: Within the city of Vernon on 3-4 standard lots close to transit and amenities.

Homes: Combination of townhouses and apartments (studios to 3 bedrooms).

Composition: Mix of ages; singles, couples and families

Occupancy: summer 2027?

Sustainability: Reduce carbon footprint by designing an eco-friendly building and sharing resources.
